Name of the book – THE SILENT PATIENT

Name of the author – Alex Michaelides

“Remember, love that doesn’t include honesty doesn’t deserve to be called love.”

Here comes the review of the first book in the “BOYFRIEND RECOMMENDS” SERIES!

Step into the enigmatic world of Alicia Berenson in “The Silent Patient,” a gripping psychological thriller unravelling the mystery behind a shocking act of violence. Renowned painter Alicia, seemingly leading a perfect life in London, shoots her husband, Gabriel, then falls silent. This inexplicable silence propels the tragedy into a captivating mystery, captivating the public’s fascination and catapulting Alicia into notoriety. Confined to a secure forensic unit, Alicia’s art skyrockets in value. Enter Theo Faber, a determined psychotherapist driven by his motivations to unravel Alicia’s secrets. In a perilous journey for truth, Theo delves into a labyrinth of intrigue and danger.

This is essentially a perplexing murder mystery with all the necessary elements—clues, suspicious characters, and red herrings. I must admit that this was my first book by Michaelides, and I am a huge fan of his writing. I found it difficult to get into the first fifty pages or so, but after I got into it, I was unable to put it down. Even individuals who solve the primary puzzle will likely derive pleasure from the process of figuring out why, as well as from all the unexpected minor discoveries that are discovered along the way.

All in all, I enjoyed this book. The author also looks at some harsh realities of funding-dependent organizations, which result in power and money being prioritized over the well-being and welfare of the patients. Once you get this book, have a hot cup of tea or coffee, shut yourself in, and start reading this masterpiece.

Favourite lines from the book –

“Choosing a lover is a lot like choosing a therapist. We need to ask ourselves, is this someone who will be honest with me, listen to criticism, admit making mistakes, and not promise the impossible?”

“Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive, and will come forth later, in uglier ways. —SIGMUND FREUD”

“You know, one of the hardest things to admit is that we weren’t loved when we needed it most. It’s a terrible feeling, the pain of not being loved.”

“We’re all crazy, I believe, just in different ways.”

“There’s so much pain everywhere, and we just close our eyes to it. The truth is we’re all scared. We’re terrified of each other.”

Rating of the book – 5⭐/5⭐ (Wish I could give more!)
