In “Scorn of Secrets” by B. Truly, Madison Guillory faces a whirlwind of challenges, starting with her dad’s gambling debt. Her mom quickly rebounds by moving the family across the state to live with her new boyfriend and his two sons. Madison, the shy and quiet type, contrasts sharply with her outgoing sister but decides to give her new family a chance. As she bonds with her laid-back stepbrother and adjusts to her new school, Taylor High, life seems to settle. However, a dreadful night shatters her dreams, leaving Madison grappling with a dark secret she fears to reveal.

This novel has excellent character development and a compelling narrative, making it a wonderfully inspirational and upbeat read that is also simple to comprehend. Although it was a fast and simple read for teenagers, it’s the sort that stays with you long after you’ve finished it. I thought Truly’s narration was excellent! Since it’s the first book, the conclusion is left open. I’m eager to start reading Thorn of Secrets, Book 2!
