It’s not easy to translate. When translating a text and transliterating it at the same time, one must pay close attention to language and grammar. Hindi is a phonetic language, with distinct signs denoting distinct sounds. There are significant errors in the translation.As I read Surdas’s songs in this new translation, it reminds me once more how one of the greatest creations of the Indic imagination is the figure of Krishna.
