The Chronicles of Arax REVIEW! #1654

Name of the series – The Chronicles of Arax

Name of the author – Benjamin Sanford

What defines a hero? Are heroes born, or created? These questions lie at the heart of Terin Caleph’s journey in this compelling fantasy novel. For those who have ever wondered about the nature of heroism, this book offers a profound exploration. Terin, a humble farm boy from the Torry realm, is thrust into a world far beyond the simplicity of his daily life. His story is one of transformation, where he transitions from tending fields to facing monumental battles that determine the fate of entire kingdoms.

Terin’s journey begins on his family’s farm, surrounded by lush fields and the love of his parents. His life changes dramatically when he is selected to work as a scribe for a Torry ambassador, an old friend of his father’s. This opportunity pulls him away from the familiar and into a realm of uncertainty and danger. The narrative invites readers to consider how ordinary people can rise to extraordinary challenges. Terin’s transition from a farm boy to a key player in a war against gargoyles symbolizes the latent potential within us all. The ancient, luminous sword gifted to him by his father, which he initially cannot fathom needing, becomes a crucial part of his journey and survival.

The book vividly depicts the fierce and frequent gargoyle attacks, the central cities’ strained resources, and the human armies’ separation. Readers will be captivated by the diverse cast of characters, from the esteemed Torry warrior to the thuggish group of Earthers. This motley crew’s dynamic and evolving relationships add depth and nuance to the narrative, highlighting the importance of unity and courage in the face of overwhelming odds. Ultimately, this book is more than just a tale of fantasy and adventure; it’s a meditation on the essence of heroism. It challenges readers to reflect on their potential for greatness and the impact they can have on the world. Dive into Terin’s epic journey and discover what it truly means to be a hero.

I did read the sequel to the first book, “The Siege of Corell” and I absolutely loved both of them. I will not talk much about the second book as it will contain spoilers. But I highly recommend this book!
